LATF CONCLUDES REVIEW WORKSHOP ON WILDLIFE ENFORCEMENT MONITORING SYSTEM (WEMS) – 13th to 14th October 2011

The Lusaka Agreement Task Force (LATF) concluded a two-day review workshop on Wildlife Enforcement Monitoring System (WEMS).
The workshop was a follow up and review of the first workshop that took place in May this year. The participants brought together the challenges and improvements needed on the system to maximize its potential.

The workshop was opened by the Director LATF Mr. Bonaventure Ebayi. He recognized and appreciated the presence of UNEP representative, Dr. Margaret Oduk and Mr. Khoi the resource person. He encouraged all the participants to learn as much as possible from the software engineer Mr. Khoi who was the resource person.

The representative of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Dr. Margaret Oduk made a few remarks and congratulated the Task Force and the Lusaka Agreement Member States for being the pioneer in this kind of a system Dr. Margaret assured LATF that UNEP is encouraging such projects that will contribute to protect the environment by conserving wild fauna and flora and will give it full support.

During the closing of the workshop, the Director LATF reviewed the achievements and encouraged WEMS national focal points and other credited users to feed the system with sufficient relevant data that will allow receiving of timely expected outputs y member states.

The Lusaka Agreement Task Force highly appreciates the success attained during the training which is attributed to the partners University of Twente-ITC and the United Nations University for providing the software as well as the resource person for the workshop, member states for providing trainees and indeed the United Nations Environment program (UNEP) for the requisite
financial support.
