PROGRAMMES AND ACTIVITIES

Training and Awareness.

Developing institutional and personnel capacities of the Task Force and National Bureaus is key to the effective implementation of the Lusaka Agreement. In this regard, the Task Force in collaboration with National Bureaus organizes and conducts training courses and Workshops. The primary beneficiaries of these programmes include officers of the National Bureaus and Task Force as well as other Law Enforcement Agencies.  The capacity building programmes entail specialized training courses relating to intelligence, investigations and awareness raising

In all the specialized training courses conducted by 31st March 2007, over 400 officers have been equipped with skills in investigation and intelligence techniques.

Furthermore, the Task Force convenes Inter-agency workshops which bring together officers from relevant LEAs, with the aim of creating awareness, sharing experiences as well as promoting co-operation in fighting wildlife crime.

Equipment

Specialized equipment is a pre-requisite for effective execution of field operations. The Task Force has and continues to procure and distribute operational equipment for its own as well as National Bureaus’ use. Over the past eight years the Task Force, continued to adopt new investigative techniques with a view of curtailing the ever increasing sophistication in wildlife crime. Consequently, it has acquired and distributed equipment such as the High Frequency radios, surveillance, detection systems and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) among others to the National Bureaus.

Information exchange

The Task Force being a law enforcement agency attaches great importance to information exchange which in turn facilitates planning and implementation of its activities. Accordingly, it receives and sends out alerts to National Bureaus and other LEAs on information concerning wildlife crime.
The Task Force has entered into cooperation agreements on sharing and exchanging of information with the CITES, OCFSA, and ICPO-Interpol Secretariats.
